These are exciting times!
In late June 2001,
the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) approved a petition
designating the telephone number "211" for access to
community information. The PUCO decision clarifies a process for
implementing 211 in Ohio, designating the Ohio Council of
Information & Referral Providers and the 211 Ohio Collaborative
as the coordinating body for this implementation.
In July 2000 the FCC
ruled that the number 211 be designated for access to community
information and referral services nationwide. Meetings are being
held with legislators, community leaders, funders and others to
implement 211 in Ohio. If you are not familiar with 211 Ohio or the
National 211 initiative, now is the time to join Ohio AIRS and get
involved. Plans are also being made to
hold meetings and offer training sessions in several locations
around the state. This is your opportunity to bring 211 to your
area.
